Experiences in Using Nikon D100
Printed Pictures Comparison

                        By Somkiet Phaloprakarn

When you use film for photography the picture came out in different quality depended upon many factors.
However, film has been used for very long time and colour labs know how to manage with the colour prints.
For digital photography the process is different. Even the original digital file is good but the quality of the
picture printed by Digital Colour Labs can be different and we have tested four of them and found that at
least one of them is good, especially for the outdoor landscape pictures.

Picture A.   Original Digital File

Picture B.  Printed by Sony Printer DPP-SV77 without adjusting colour or brightness. The colour of the sky is blue. The colour seems
to be vivid and over saturated. The printing
cost is 25 Baht per piece which is not affordable.

Picture C.  Printed from Color Lab 1. The
sky turned to be paled gray and not real.
The printing cost is 4 Baht.

   Pic1EE.jpg (28114 bytes)
Picture E.  Printed from Color Lab 2. The sky
colour is blue and it is quite close to the original.
The printing cost is 5 Baht.

   Pic1D.jpg (30891 bytes)
Picture D.  Printed from Color Lab 3. The sky
turned to be a little bit gray. . The printing
   cost is 6 Baht.

Summary :  It is necessary to do some experiments
on the quality of pictures printed by digital colour
labs. The best digital lab that I found among the
four selected labs around my area is the one that
   printed Picture E above.
