Hard Disk Drive 3.5" is a useful accessory for storing and transferring a lot of data and images between computers. It is also an extra HDD for backup as well as for data storage and normal uses. |
  Recommendation : When you buy a 3.5" HDD ask the seller to do the formatting, e.g. using partioning into two drives, using FAT32, NTFS. People at Pantip can do it very quickly. Updated Information  On October 20, 2006 I bought another HD-337 from MacroCare on the 3rd floor of IT Mall, Fortune Tower in Bangkok. The assembly was done by the technician at the shop with Seagate 320 GB hard disk (4,090 Baht) and the HDD-337 casing with USB 2.0 at 1,090 Baht. So total cost is 5,180 Baht or about US.$ 136.  |
 The unit is only an external case which can be connected to the PC or notebook via USB 2.0 or Firewire interface. We put a 3.5" 80 GB Maxtor HDD into the case and connected all cables. The tests were carried out by connecting the Mobile Disk to a 2.0 GHz PC. Test results are : 1. Transfer 600 MB images files (480 images) from PC to Mobile Disk took 48 seconds. Thus the transfer rate is 12.5 MB/sec. 2. Transfer 600 MB images files (480 images) from Mobile Disk to PC took 54 seconds. Thus the transfer rate is 11.1 MB/sec. The transfer rate using USB 2.0 interface is very fast and this should be ideal for external HDD. Note : The Mobile Disk Combo 3.5" External Case is available at Pantip Plaza at 3,100 Baht or US.$ 72 while the unit with only USB 2.0 is cheaper. The 80 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM HDD is 3,990 Baht or US.$ 93 (as of May 18, 2003). |
