War Cemetery This cemetery is located just 1 kilometer north of Kanchanaburi city. It contains the remains of 6,982 war prisoners (mostly the British, Dutch, Australian and American) who lost their lives during the construction of the Bridge over the River Kwai and the railway to Burma (the Death Railway). Another smaller cemetery in Kanchanaburi is the Chong Kai War Cemetery which contains the remains of 1,750 war prisoners. Chong Kai used to be the location of large prisoners camp during World War II. |
