Using Epson R230
with CIS or Ink Tank Due to the popularity and the cheaper price of photo printers now printing digital photos from 4x6, 5x7 and 8.5x11 inches can be easily made at home. The advantages of printing your own photos and CD/DVD are that you can make adjustments to the colors, brightness, contrast, etc. or retouch the photo before printing. Also, the CD/DVD cover can be designed to include pictures and texts for your favorite collections. I myself have been using few standalone photo printers earlier but was disappointed with the high cost of printing papers and soon became difficult to find and it also is limited to the size of 4x6 inches paper only. The computer printer which is designed as photo printer which can print ordinary paper as well as photo papers and even CD/DVD covers are very useful. However, if you are using the original color cartridges the print quality may be the best, but the cost per print is so expensive and to print one 4x6 inches photo will probably cost 20 - 25 Baht (approx.US. 0.5 - 0.65 cents). Actually to have one digital photo of 4x6 inches printed in Bangkok it will cost only 4 Baht. Furthermore, we also print a lot from the web sites and some of them are used and filed while most of them are thrown away later on. So the way to save color printing cost is to use the continuous inking system (CIS) or simply called Ink Tank. The Epson R230 with CIS installed was bought at the price of 6,300 Baht (approx. US.$ 170). Several tests were made during the first two weeks and after some adjustments it delivered beautiful photos and good quality ordinary A4 paper printings. Printing Digital Photos Adjustments should be made (if necessary) to get the correct brightness, contrast, saturation, and may be to use the feature of enhanced photo including the vivid & clear. Before printing carefully check the paper size & type. It is also a good idea to see the print preview before actual printing especially when you have a printing que for many photos. Printing Cost From the tests by printing 4x6, 5x7 and A4 photos up till now it is estimated that the cost of printing a 4x6 inches photo is approx. 1.5 Baht or US. 4 Cents. Summary 1. The quality of printing digital photos are very good and with some prior adjustments it is very satisfactory as compare to the quality of photo lab. 2. Printing ordinary A4 paper may require some prior adjustments. The quality is accepatable. 3. Printing CD/DVD cover is easy with the provided software. The quality is very good. 4. How long will the print heads of Epson R230 last when it is used with the CIS? This we will have to wait to see. |
