Kangwon Palace stands by the sea in the Hua Hin District of Prachuap Khirikhan Province. King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) has graciously built it as a summer palace for Queen Rambai Barni by using money from Privy Purse. He ordered Prince Iddhidehsarn Kridakara, an architectural graduate from the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in France and the director of the Department of Fine Arts, to design and supervise the construction. Preparation of the site began in October 1926, and on September 21, 1927 construc- tion work for royal mansion and other buildings started. A celebration to mark the completion of the royal mansion was held on 10 -11 April 1929 and other structures were added until 1933. His Majesty King Bhumibol (Rama IX) has graciously commanded to expand the area of the palace. He ordered to build a mansion for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and other buildings in the same style as the original seventh reign buildings so as to preserve harmony among the buildings of the palace. Also, the accommodation has been built for their entourage. Visitor Information : Open everyday from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. (Tickets sold until 3.15 p.m.) Tel : (032) 511- 115 |
