      Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
                 and Surge Protection

The UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is commonly known and used for computer centers, telecom equipment,
and other important electronic devices. A small UPS which has AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator), Surge
Suppression and Noise Filter with battery backup for 10-30 minutes are very useful for computer users.

The 525 VA UPS suitable for one PC with a lot of
peripherals. In our case we connected CPU, 17"
LCD Monitor, ZIP Drive, External Hard Disk Drive,
and USB 2.0 Hub through the UPS. The printer and
scanner and sound amplifier are connected through
the 4-Way Surge Protector.

Availability & Price :
Pantip Plaza and IT Mall.
The price of UPS 525 VA is 2,990 Baht (US.$ 69)
and the price of Surge Protector is 390 Baht or
US.$ 9. (As of June 5, 2003).
                 4-Way Surge Protector Switches
Surge1A.jpg (21415 bytes)
The 4-way surge protector switches like the one shown
above is a low cost sockets which restricts indoor
circuit to a safe range in case there are lightning or
interferences from the outside. This is useful not only
for computer equipments but for other electric appliances.

Note :
It is good to connect all devices through the UPS. But if
the rating of UPS is not sufficiently large it is recommended
that only sensitive and frequently used devices are
connected. In our case, the printer, scanner and amplifier
are not always used so we seperated them form the UPS
circuit but connected them through the 4-Way Surge Protector.
By doing this we have CPU, Monitor, external HDD, and Hub
connected through the UPS so that in case of power failure
we have a little more time to use the available power supply
through battery inside the UPS to manage with necessary
files or images saving before the computer is shut down.
